Howay the Blog!

Heading for Europe

What a crazy game that was this weekend, I was buzzing for the game even at 5:30 in the morning and it sounded like the whole ground was.

There were so many stories within this game that it’s not worth even trying to cover them all, but I have to say after deconstructing “the Entertainers”, poaching players from us and then backing Suarez in the racism case it was really nice to just batter Kenny’s team, the rest of it was almost irrelevant and I even felt a bit sorry for Carroll who it appears will now always walk alone. On our side, fantastic on the break, Tiote was magnificent in the middle and our stand in centre backs both ha top games.

As for this weekends jaunt into European football, the trip to Wales and Swansea away has been a tricky fixture for everyone this year, however much like West Brom I think their season is winding down, their coming off a loss to Spurs and they have nothing left to play for, we on the other hand still have an outside chance of catching Chelsea and/or Spurs and have some real momentum going at the beat possible time. I think we will go for it as long as Perchiniho is fit, I think it will be a relatively unchanged team with Raylor in at RB moving Jonas into midfield for the injured Guthrie and we will try and hit them on the break.

Its going to be a really open game and the score is going to be 3-2 Newcastle, BA will finally get back on the score sheet

Chasing Forth - Champions League is still a possibility

Well, I guess I got the score wrong for the West Brom game but I was right about catching them with their trousers down, they didn’t get near us in the first half. I hear Warren Barton said that was our best 45 minutes this season and I think it’s hard to argue with that, the ManU and Stoke games spring to mind but I think this was the best attacking display I’ve seen.
Unfortunately it came at a cost, my player of the season (Colo) is out for 2-3 games at a bad time for us. I think that might have a bearing on the 11 that start on Sunday, Perch will obviously come in at CB but the big question is does he throw another into midfield to protect the back four or not? I think there is a lot of pressure at home to attack but for me I think Raylor at RM and BA or HBA playing behind Cisse would be the way to go.

As for the old boys coming back, I basically don’t care, I’ll be happy as long as none of them score, we’re in a much better place now than when they left so no great loss there.

As far as scores go, with Colo I would have gone 3-1, without him I think 1-1 would be a decent result and I am sticking with BA to get the goal, he’s due one.

Chasing Fifth

Next up is West Brom, they have been a royal pain in the arse for us in the last few years but I think we might have timing on our side here, WBA are safe, they’ve nothing left to play for and we are chasing hard for 5th.
Chelsea and Liverpool have slipped again which should give us a chance to prove something tomorrow, a win brings us level with CFC (though with an inferior goal difference) and would put us eight ahead of LFC.
I honestly don’t care where we finish now, it’s been a great season whatever happens, but I would love it if we could finish ahead of Liverpool this year.
My Prediction is 2-1 Newcastle, BA to get a brace.

New voice

Well I guess I will be joining the team for the run in, testing, testing, 1, 2, 3…

Oops

I almost forgot we had this blog.  Guess we’ve been enjoying the season too much!  Well, let’s make a run of the last couple weeks.  Howay the lads!

It’s that time again! Howay the lads!

It seems to me that the pro-Ashley supporters and anti-Ashley supporters are so well entrenched that the same arguments are coming out and being re-gurgitated over and over again.
It’s almost become boring as it is obvious who sits on which side of the fence.
I would just like to ask the pro-Ashley boys whether they would be happy to depart this earth in the future never having won anything (or worse never even being near to winning anything) and cheerfully go to their maker safe in the knowledge that we have a great, healthy Balance Sheet?
I’ve watched and supported the Toon for over 50 odd years and in that time have only actually seen one trophy win (Fairs Cup).
If some of you young accountancy type fans are in the same position many years from now (and don’t forget I have seen ONE), will you be still supporting The Controller if he was still here – God forbid?
And here’s me thinking watching the game (and the Toon in particular) was all about enjoyment, seeing star performers and trying to compete with the best.
I must have been mistaken all these years.
